Tesla Model Y topped sales in the German car market in September, according to sales figures released by the Federal Motor Transport Agency (KBA) (through the Electrek).
Tesla has achieved monthly bestseller status in other countries – such as Norway – but doing so in Germany is crucial as the US company is competing with established German carmakers. on their home turf.

Tesla delivered 9,848 Model Y crossovers in Germany in September, making the Model Y the best-selling vehicle that month. The Model Y beat the perennial favorite Volkswagen Golf, managing just over 7,000 deliveries in September. Additionally, German Model 3 deliveries reached 3,878 units in September.
Tesla has been looking to increase sales in Europe with the Giga Berlin factory, which produces cars announced in 2019. The first production cars from this factory, located just outside the German capital, delivered in March.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk saw Model Y become a global bestseller by 2022—And this is a proven point. Tesla is said to have eliminated a large portion of the market that was previously held by German luxury brands. Fleet buyers also now make up a significant portion of Tesla’s sales. Subscription service Autonomy and Hertz are among the companies that have added Tesla’s EV Sales. Established automakers often discount fleet sales, considering them less important than retail sales. It’s not clear if Tesla or its backers made that distinction.
