Stellantis on Wednesday released a new introductory video for Jeep Wagoneer S 2024 suggests the electric SUV is taking aim at the Tesla Model Y.
A voiceover declares that Jeep is “going head-to-head with America’s best-selling electric vehicle brand,” setting up a race between the Wagoneer S (albeit a pre-production vehicle) and the Model Y Performance. In the video, Jeep quotes a 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds for the Wagoneer S (minus deployment time), while Tesla’s website currently lists a 0-60 time mph is 3.5 seconds for the Model Y Performance.

This also gives the Wagoneer S the fastest 0-60 mph time of any production Jeep to date, beating the old gasoline Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the automaker notes. Like the Model Y Performance, the Trackhawk is 0.1 second slower than the Wagoneer S.
However, the Trackhawk still has bragging rights when it comes to power. While impressive, the Wagoneer S’s 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque don’t come close to the 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft produced by the Trackhawk’s supercharged V-8. Granted, those specs only apply to the pre-production Wagoneer S, as does the estimated range of more than 300 miles.
Jeep first introduced the Wagoneer S in concept form in September 2022 along with many other models Rugged Recon off-road vehicle, described as the Wrangler’s “older brother”. The production version is expected to fully launch on May 30, and sales will begin this fall.
On the other hand, Jeep seems quite focused on plug-in hybrids at the moment. It recently confirmed one Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid pickup truck will go on sale in the US, while Europe will get the 4xe version of the Avenger crossover that was detailed on Wednesday. Jeep also skipped electric vehicles This year’s series of off-road concepts for the annual Easter Jeep Safari; all have engines on board.
