The Tesla Model 3 2024 Performance has done its Malaysians come in May this year, less than a month after its global debut. As its name suggests, this upgraded version of the Model 3 ‘Highland’ offers more performance.
These features are achieved by a ‘Performance Drive Unit’ system consisting of two four-wheel drive motors, producing 460 horsepower, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, including the ability to roll a foot.
The car’s top speed is 161 mph, while the 79 kWh battery pack provides a range of up to 320 miles (528 km) based on the WLTP test standard. For comparison, the RWD version can travel up to 313 miles (513 km) on a single charge, while the Long Range AWD version can travel up to 390 miles (629 km).
Chassis changes over the ‘regular’ Model 3 facelift include adaptive dampers, with new springs, bushings and anti-roll bars, along with a 10mm lower ride height. Software changes include Track Mode V3 with new damper and motor calibrations, a drift mode and the ability to vary ESC intervention and torque between the front and rear axles.
The wheels are 20-inch black ‘Warp’ forged alloys, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Elect tires measuring 235/35R20 at the front and 275/30R20 at the rear. Other exterior changes compared to regular Model 3 variants include new front and rear bumpers, the front bumper has new air intakes and a splitter, while the rear bumper has a subtle diffuser at the back.
The changes that set the Model 3 Performance apart from its smaller stablemates also extend to the interior, where there are new, more bolstered sports seats with integrated headrests and no seatback pockets. Elsewhere, the Model 3 Performance’s cabin remains the same, with a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, and an eight-inch rear touchscreen.
Like other versions of the Model 3 range, options are available for the Model 3 Performance, with the Solid Black exterior paint seen here being a RM5,000 option (as is Deep Blue Metallic). Stealth Grey is a RM7,500 option, while Quicksilver and Ultra Red are priced at RM11,000 each.
Inside, black upholstery is standard, while a black-and-white theme is optional at RM5,000. Other options include Enhanced Autopilot at RM16,000, while the Full Self Driving (FSD) package – currently unavailable – is priced at RM32,000.
