Tesla has added a Off-road mode for Cybertruck with the software update announced in May and recently released a video explaining how it works.

Like the off-road modes available in other electric pickup trucks like Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EVTesla includes a variety of features that change the vehicle’s characteristics to suit specific terrain, as well as driver assistance devices that make navigating that terrain easier.

In off-road mode, one Road mode maximizes traction for low-speed technical driving over rocks, while Baja Mode designed for high-speed driving on rough surfaces. The driver can also adjust the handling balance using a touchscreen slider, allowing for more stability or agility as needed.

Amphibious mode raising the ride height and pumping compressed air into the battery compartment to help keep water out. This allowed the Cybertruck to wade through 32 inches of water, according to a Off-roading guide for Tesla owners. Tesla notes that the feature is only available for 30 minutes at a time, and it can take up to 10 minutes to pressurize the battery pack.

Tesla also includes Trail Assist, which is essentially low-speed off-road cruise control similar to what other brands have offered on their off-road vehicles. It automatically maintains a set speed (including when going up and down hills), allowing the driver to focus on steering around obstacles.

Tesla unveiled the production version of the Cybertruck in November 2023, retaining much of the look of the stainless steel behemoth that Tesla first introduced in 2019. But the production version of the Cybertruck doesn’t come with a starting price of $39,900. or range up to 500 miles Tesla suggested at the time.
