Teen says police shot her dog for barking during landlord dispute


A family in Miami, Florida, could never have imagined that a landlord dispute would result in the death of their dog. According to a 14-year-old girl and her aunt, Dunia Mota, it all started when the landlord came to the house with an eviction notice. Girl at home with her Pit Bull dog named Chaos.

Chaos barked when he heard the homeowner outside, and for some reason, that prompted the homeowner to call the police. When the police arrived, they did not ask for details of the situation. Instead, they fatally shot Chaos in front of his young self. The family is devastated and insists Chaos did nothing wrong.

Disputes for landlords escalate

Unfortunately, a lot of the details of the situation were not mentioned. But based on public information, poor Chaos died unnaturally. Mota said the homeowner called the police to report the dog barking, and when officers arrived, they opened the door. Mota’s niece was about to put the dog in another room, but then tragedy struck.

“The police showed up, they opened the door to the house, and the dog was there and they shot the dog,” Mota said. “They just watched him die essentially.”

Police claimed they shot the dog after he went out, but the 14-year-old said they shot him after entering the house. There’s blood in the house to prove it. The girl was standing just a few feet away when she saw her dog being shot.

“I was hurt by it. It just kept going around in my head, like, I don’t know,” said the teenager, who has not been identified.

Pit Bull was not successful

Mota said that at first the police refused to let the family take Chaos to the vet. However, the officer eventually gave in, so the family rushed the dog to a nearby emergency vet. When they got there, they received bad news that every dog ​​parent fears.

Because the dog was shot in the stomach, he fell into a critical condition and had to be put down. Mota and her family both say that Chaos is a cute person who did nothing wrong in this situation. So they want justice for their dog.

“He’s so cute. That dog never bit anyone, never jumped on anyone,” Mota said. “[My niece has] had him since he was 2 weeks old or 3 weeks old, and now she doesn’t have him anymore. ”

The Miami-Dade Police Department is currently conducting an internal investigation. In a statement, they said they were heartbroken about the situation because they cared about both people and pets in the community. The investigation is still ongoing, and no information has been made public. But the police department promised to remain transparent when working with those involved.
