Swansea lockdown artist – ‘I only want to paint for joy’

An adolescent who grew to become a success after taking over portray in lockdown has mentioned she does not need to change into an artist long-term.

When colleges closed in March 2020, Makenzy Beard, 14, from Swansea began portray on canvasses in her backyard shed.

She hit the headlines after a portrait of her neighbour, Gower farmer John Tucker, went on show on the Younger Artists’ Summer time Present throughout July and August on the Royal Academy of Arts.

Her newest portray is especially particular, because it options her grandad.

However, whereas Makenzy mentioned it was “reassuring” to have one thing to fall again, she did not suppose she wished portray as a profession as it would wreck her enjoyment of selecting up a brush.

“There is a pleasure I get from squeezing within the portray and that makes it a reward, amongst every part else I do, and I feel I it wants to remain that method if I’ll take pleasure in it.”
