Summary: New AI Tools and Private Clouds for Data-Driven Healthcare

As part of its private cloud strategy, Hitachi Vantara said Monday it can reduce friction between multiple vendors with new private and hybrid cloud environments designed to upgrade hospital IT systems and better handle their data needs.

Meanwhile, the largest rural health care system in the United States also announced that it is pursuing cloud modernization across its medical centers, clinics, senior centers, and other advanced care resources through a new partnership with Infor.

Process automation company Qventus says it has added real-time insights to its inpatient and perioperative care platforms, which can increase operating room capacity by three to six cases per month and also automate clinicians’ bedside tasks post-surgery.

VMware launches private cloud, hybrid cloud

Hitachi is committed to reducing organizations’ costs and energy consumption through a partnership with Broadcom, which acquired VMware in November, the company said in a statement.

By combining automation and software-defined services with enterprise infrastructure, the new hybrid, private cloud can help organizations modernize to improve performance and data scale.

According to Hitachi, the platform deploys mission-critical and business workloads with highly available hybrid server-based virtualization – VMware vSAN – and external storage. It eliminates friction across multiple vendors by providing a single source of truth for systems, solutions, and services.

“Not only does this address the current challenges of data management and infrastructure modernization, it also aligns with the organization’s sustainability goals, making it an essential tool for businesses looking to thrive in the innovative era. [artificial intelligence] and more,” Paul Turner, vice president of products for Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation, said in a statement.

Sanford Health Partners with Infor

With the unified processes, Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based Sanford Health will be able to break down silos and integrate core business functions, according to an announcement Monday from Infor, a provider of enterprise cloud software, about the new partnership.

Streamlining workflows across departments and gathering real-time insights could free up healthcare workers at Sanford Health, the company says.

“We look forward to helping Sanford Health achieve greater operational efficiency and deliver exceptional healthcare services to the communities they serve,” Steve Fanning, senior vice president at Infor, said in a statement.

Last week, Infor also announced that it has selected Amazon Bedrock to build and scale embedded generative AI applications.

Qventus Adds AI to Its Operations Platform

According to Qventus, AI-powered digital assistants can help clinicians reduce time spent on administrative tasks, which waste an estimated $13 billion a year.

To bridge the gap from data to action, the company added sophisticated real-time data analytics capabilities — predicting patient needs and recommending specific actions — initially developed with providers including Ardent Health, Allina Health, HonorHealth, Northwestern Medicine and others.

With AI’s operational support, healthcare teams can practice “at the highest level within the scope of their license,” the company’s CEO and co-founder Mudit Garg said in a statement.

Frontline staff using AI assistants in inpatient platforms to enhance bedside work efficiency can improve patient outcomes, while using AI assistants in the company’s surgical care platform can automate procedural components in surgical and post-operative coordination.

Additional insights could help hospitals prevent surgical cancellations, reduce burden on care teams, and increase productivity.

“Disjointed surgical coordination is a significant clinical challenge for our health system partners,” Dr. David Atashroo, Qventus’ chief medical officer, noted in the statement.

It has “dramatically reduced” the administrative burden at HonorHealth, added Kim Post, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
