Subaru Crosstrek Boost Gear concept heading to Tokyo Auto Salon

subaru unveiled two of the concepts it will bring to the 2023 version of the Tokyo Auto Salon. Based Crosstrek and Rex, respectively, Boost Gear badged design studies receive a variety of add-ons intended to make them more capable.

Tokyo Auto Salon every year is like Japanese version of SEMA and diagonal line Boost Gear will fit right in. Cross each other slightly taller than the regular production model thanks in part to the raised suspension and muddy off-road tyres. It also receives a Crosstrek-branded trim on the front, additional door panels, side sills and a two-tone paint job. Finishing off is the Rhino-Rack roof rack with wide LED light bar and awning.

Shown above, Rex moves in the same direction but doesn’t go as far to the right path as Crosstrek. While it has the same two-tone paint, mud-terrain tires and blue fenders as the Crosstrek, it does away with the cladding and roof rack. Don’t worry if the name sounds unfamiliar: the current-generation Rex is a badge-engineered car. Daihatsu Rocky is sold exclusively in Japan from 2022.

More information on Subaru’s Boost Gear concept will appear in the coming weeks. It’s worth noting that we don’t know if they’re working on the design, if they’re previewing upcoming accessories, or if they’re hinting at a more off-road capable trim level like Wilderness variants of remote areas and jungler. And, not all of the concepts Subaru will unveil at the Tokyo Auto Salon are designed for off-road; Some were created with performance in mind. It is noteworthy that we will see New Impreza equipped with STI parts and a hot station wagon called the Levorg STI Sport.
