Strikes ‘likely’ Minister says as he warns public to prepare for ‘significant disruption’ | Political news

A Cabinet Secretary has told Sky News he fears rail strikes will continue this week – and warned that workers must make sacrifices as the UK battles inflation.

Simon Clarke, Secretary General of the Treasury, said that while the government is not a legal employer of union members due to leave, they cannot expect “wage inflation”.

“I’m afraid that most likely they [the strikes] Mr. Clarke said. “It is clear that we will continue to support negotiations until there is no time left for discussion.

“But I think the public doing this week needs to know that there will be very significant disruption and so it makes sense to prepare for that.”
