Stonestreet Picks Up Day 3 Charlatan Colt for $370K
Stonestreet Stables went to $370,000 to purchase a handsome Charlatan colt during the second day of Book 2 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Nov. 10.
The colt, consigned as Hip 695, was the second weanling purchased by Stonestreet at the sale following their $600,000 purchase of an Into Mischief filly on Wednesday. Stonestreet had also purchased two broodmares signed under the name Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings during the first session.
“Barbara (Banke) owns Charlatan and we still own a good piece of him as a stallion,” said John Moynihan, the bloodstock advisor for Stonestreet. “She really wanted a nice one, so he was one of the better ones we saw. His (Charlatan’s) weanlings have been really well received and we’re really excited. We bought him (the colt) to run. Barbara saw him yesterday and really liked him. Hopefully, we’ll get Charlatan off to a good start.”
Into the third day of selling, nine Charlatan weanlings have sold for a gross of $2,055,000 for an average of $228,333. A multiple grade 1 winner on the track, Charlatan was campaigned in partnership by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, Frederick Hertrich, John Fielding, and Golconda Stables during his racing career before retiring in 2021 to Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms at Xalapa.
Bred in Kentucky by Merribelle Stables, Hip 695 is the third foal out of the grade 2-winning Exchange Rate mare Hillhouse High . Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services consigned the colt on behalf of Merribelle.
