The race to East Lake officially begins as the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs continue this week in Memphis at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. Welcoming the top 70 players from the regular season, TPC Southwind once again serves as the venue for the first postseason event.

While qualifying for the playoffs is a feat in itself, the players face the opportunity to set up their 2025 campaigns for success if they make it to the next round. With the field reduced from 70 to 50, the St. Jude Championship represents the last chance for some players to qualify for next week’s BMW Championship and, ultimately, next year’s signature events.

Those currently on the sidelines include Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Mine Woo Lee and FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland. As the defending champion in two weeks, the Norwegian is in danger of not being able to compete to retain his postseason crown.

Instead, world No. 1 and Olympic gold medalist Scottie Scheffler tops the FedEx Cup standings. Scheffler has a significant advantage over Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy, and he will look to build on that advantage and enter the Tour Championship as the top name for the third year in a row.

Others vying to surpass Scheffler ahead of East Lake — with a 4X multiplier for FedEx Cup points in the playoffs — include Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau — all of whom are winless this season.
