Square Enix has shared new details about Aerith and Cloud’s first encounter in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It deals with how Aerith learns that Cloud is a former SOLDIER and mercenary, and her strange memories of the future. Through all FFVII remake, Aerith seemed to know the things that hadn’t happened yet. The company explains this is because she has strange memories that Whispers is trying to take away from her.
The tweet shared by FFVII remake Twitter account answered the question of why Aerith called Cloud a know-it-all when they met Reno at the beginning of Chapter 8. In the English version of the game, Aerith instead refers to Cloud as a mercenary, adding that she guessed he was one of her Buster Swords.
The answer revealed that, in FFVII remake, Aerith possesses vague memories she should not have of events that have not yet occurred in the future. Because of this, she knows a few things about Cloud and the others before meeting them.
When Aerith calls Cloud a trader (or mercenary), she does so unintentionally because of one of the memories she has, because she somehow “remembered” this about Cloud. Also, throughout the game, every time one of the Whispers touches her, they take some of these memories away from her.
