Time has passed When Tesla sells every car, they can produce it right from the factory. Now we’re at the point where the company really has producing too many cars. The automaker is clearly aware of this, slashing prices on popular models such as Model Y as inventory increases. Buyer although not biting and now the automaker has too much unsold inventory, as well Sherwood News reportedly, they are being stored in multiple places visible from space.

In Q1 2024, Tesla reported that it produced 433,371 vehicles. Of those, 386,810 were actually sold. This means the automaker has an additional 46,561 unsold vehicles. This can be blamed on the overall decline in electric vehicle sales, the plateau, whatever you want to call it. Tesla played a role in this and Sherwood pointed out:

“The main reason for this situation is the increase in inventory due to mismatch between production facilities,” Tesla Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja said.spending on AI computing there are also errors). “We expect the inventory build to reverse in the second quarter and free cash flow to return positive.”

So where exactly are those thousands of Teslas? They just sit a lot. Use word images SkyFi, a satellite imagery marketplace, Sherwood was able to discover where all those Teslas were stored. Images taken of Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory from a random Thursday in October 2023 and Thursday in March 2024 show many areas around the factory going from partially full to nearly full to the full extent in some cases.

It appears Tesla is also storing vehicles elsewhere around the country. Satellite images from St. Louis’ Chesterfield shows many scenes outside the shopping center filled with nearly 500 cars. Even the mall in my city of Moreno Valley, California was once used to store Teslas; I recently observed several hundred Model Ys parked outside of Sears. So, even though Tesla is still selling hundreds of thousands of cars, it seems like the brand isn’t selling as well as it used to. This makes you wonder how long they will continue to act as if we don’t notice that they have thousands of unsold inventory piled up.
