We know that it’s more important to protect our dogs than anything is to love dog owners. Their health, happiness and well-being is all in our hands – because they can’t take care of themselves. We must be vigilant about potential dangers that can harm our dogs, just as we do with our toddlers.

One dog, named Wasabi, is a recent victim of this potential danger. His grandmother, Patricia Polacco, posted this on Facebook:
“My daughter Traci lost her dearest Wasabi dog…it was a bag of pork. She had left to go pick up something from a friend, hadn’t even been gone 10 minutes and her roommate had called. He found her by the front door with the bag still on her head. KNOW……..she didn’t even think that something like this could happen. None of us know!!!! Please expand your vocabulary. Chip bag, bag with zip lock with leftovers in it, healing bag, yogurt container, Especially YoPlait, cut it all out!!!! Don’t leave them where puppies and cats can reach them. Our hearts are still breaking. Thank you. ”

Another dog, named Menja, was also killed by a bag of snacks according to WUSA 9. Shira Reese, his mother, told the news station the day she found out her dog was dead:
“I went downstairs and found him unresponsive to the Goldfish bag around his neck,” Shira told WUSA 9. “At that point, he was frozen.”

3rd dog owner, Debbie Smith, also spoke about her worst day imaginable,
“[He] was starting to swell and so on. It’s just unbearable. He was my life for 10 years. I cried like a baby for days and weeks. ”
The four dogs merely obeyed a natural instinct: hunger. Their insatiable appetite led to their death.

Every dog is vulnerable. It doesn’t matter how well trained they are, or how big or small they are. Dog owners will be shocked to learn that their beloved pets can perish in a deadly trap like this.

Tips for dog owners: Keep all snack bags hidden. Another great idea is to invest in sealable containers that will fit in your pantry. This will also keep food fresh for longer and save you money over time. Be careful. Their safety is at stake!
