SHAKUR Stevenson signs with boxer

Lightweight king Shakur Stevenson has signed with Matchroom Boxing. “I’m ready to start the next chapter of my career and it starts on October 12th against Joe Cordina at the Riyadh Season show in Saudi Arabia,” Stevenson said in a press release. “I’ve made it clear that I want the biggest names and the biggest fights in the sport. Throw in William Zepeda in early 2025 and I’m ready for anyone brave enough to step into the ring with me. There have been very few people willing to take on that challenge in recent years.”

The undefeated, 22-0 Stevenson has been looking for a big fight for years. In fact, the man can have two things going for him. The first is that he is a VERY good fighter. However, Stevenson is often accused of being a boring fighter. The man is simply not an action-oriented athlete. Nor is he particularly exciting to watch, in the same way as defensive legends like Floyd Mayweather or Pernell Whitaker. However, no one in Stevenson’s overall weight class can be considered the best without facing the young man from Newark. That’s why Stevenson is so valuable to a promotion like Matchroom.

“I am delighted to welcome what I believe is a fantastic fighter to the Matchroom team,” said Eddie, Matchroom’s chief executive. “Shakur Stevenson is only 27 and is already a three-division world champion and arguably the undefeated heavyweight champion in boxing. This young man is destined to become a global superstar and I am confident that with our machine behind him he will win all the big fights and get all the recognition he deserves.
The journey begins on October 12 in Riyadh on a big card, and we look forward to the future together.”

Stevenson’-Cordina will be in the undercard of the undisputed light heavyweight title fight between Artur Beterbirev and Dmitry Bivol. “With Matchroom and Riyadh Season, I am joining forces with a promotional force that matches my world-class talent,” said Stevenson. “We will be unstoppable both in and out of the ring, and I will continue to dominate the sport of boxing for many years to come.” That’s what Matchroom hopes is true.

The promotion claims: “Stevenson has an impeccable resume, having defeated the likes of Oscar Valdez, Robson Conceicao and Jamel Herring – helping him win the WBC and WBO Super Featherweight titles, along with the WBO Featherweight title throughout an incredible career to date.”
