Service stations ran out of gas across Malaysia, leaving many motorists stranded after Hari Raya took a break

The extended Hari Raya holiday has seen an influx of vehicles across the states across the country, and that volume has depleted fuel supplies in many places, with a large number of service stations running out of gas. , especially gasoline RON 95. , due to a significant increase in demand. This resulted in many motorists being unable to refuel their cars for the return journey, Malay Letters report.

Users began taking to Twitter to report the issue last night, with many sharing experiences of finding low or no supply of RON 95 gasoline at gas stations. While most are concentrated around the East Coast, parts of Perak, Kedah and Perlis are also listed as affected by fuel shortages. Several Twitter users also concerned that some service stations split the amount of gas they can buy, with limits of RM20 and RM30 reported.

Astro Awani reported that about 200 vehicles were stranded after a gas station at Kampung Saujana in Setiu, Terengganu ran out of fuel yesterday evening. It added that the tanker arrived later, around midnight.

The Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) said the shortage was caused by a spike in demand, plus severe congestion on the highways, which made it slow for tanker trucks to arrive at service stations. late.

Talking to The Malaysia InsightPDAM Chairman Datuk Khairul Anwar Abdul Aziz said that fuel tankers also have to divide the supply at each place because many petrol stations are facing shortages. “Selling too high but stuck too. [For] tankers arrive at the stations, they will be delayed in arrival and departure [from station to station]”He is quoted as saying.

He added that not only service stations on the highways but also those along major roads, such as those headed to the East Coast, ran out of gas. “This Raya is different from the others, it was a surprise. The sale was crazy. Usually a 20% increase from a weekday, this time a 40% increase,” he said, adding that the gasoline shortage is expected to continue into tomorrow (Sunday).
