Sea&Sea has introduced a trio of innovative underwater video lights: LX-4000SW FSthe LX-2400SW FSand LX-1200SW FS. The three lights are functionally identical and differ only in beam brightness (100° beam angle)—4,000 lumens, 2,400 lumens, and 1,200 lumens, respectively. In fact, the body of each light is identical; only the lamp head is different. As such, they are truly interchangeable, although setup is required after switching lamp heads.

Since the body of each light is identical, the same battery is used in each case, so the runtime in flood mode decreases as the wattage increases. The LX-1200SW FS has a runtime of 110 minutes at full power, the LX-2400SW FS lasts for 60 minutes, and the LX-4000SW FS maxes out at 30 minutes. Each light also offers a spotlight mode (30° beam angle) at 1,500 lumens with a runtime of 90 minutes. The floodlight has a color temperature of 5,500K and a color rendering index (CRI) of 90, while the spotlight has a color temperature of 6,500K and a CRI of 70.

What sets these lights apart is what Sea&Sea calls their proprietary COB—which stands for “chip on board”—LED array for the high beam, a “donut” shaped ring surrounding a single LED for the high beam. Sea&Sea says the “single” COB light source creates sharper, more natural shadows.

Central light distribution for both floodlights and spotlights

The light source is COB (LED), which has a long-standing reputation for uniform light distribution. The COB is customized into a donut shape according to our original design. The wide light source is placed in the donut, and the LED spotlight is placed in the center of the light emitting surface, corresponding to the “hole” in the center of the light source. Whether it is a wide light or a spotlight, the optical axis is centered in the center of the light emitting surface, ensuring optimal illumination at all times.

What is the new “COB”?

“COB” is a type of LED. “COB” stands for “Chip On Board”, and as the name suggests, multiple LED chips are placed directly on a circuit board. Since multiple LED chips are arranged in a concentrated manner, high brightness is achieved. In addition, since the light is emitted from a single surface, a large surface can be evenly illuminated. SEA&SEA is the first company in Japan to arrange “COB” in a donut shape. Even with a wide light, shadows are less likely to form in the middle, creating uniform light.

Eliminate “multiple shadows”

Using COB eliminates “shadows” in both ambient and spot lighting. The natural shadows highlight the subject clearly and sharply, making it ideal as a photographic light.

What is multi-ball?

The characteristic shadow cast by LED is different from sunlight when the object is illuminated by an LED composed of multiple LED light-emitting chips. When the object is illuminated by an LED composed of multiple LED light-emitting chips, unnatural shadows (multiple shadows) are produced, different from the shadows produced by sunlight. Multiple shadows can obscure the outline of the object and reduce the visibility of the object. COB single light source, as a single light source, does not produce multiple shadows.

Multiple light intensity adjustment functions

Adjust the amount of light: Stepwise dimming
When the light is on, simply press the power button to dim the light in 4 steps. One-touch operation allows switching between 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, so you can change the light intensity according to the situation.

Light level adjustment: Stepless dimming
Stepless dimming from 0 to 100% is achieved by the left and right dimming buttons, and can be precisely adjusted in 1% increments. The digital percentage display allows for precise adjustment and a sense of security.

Light intensity adjustment: Memory function
The “memory function” is especially useful when filming because the light will turn off once and then turn back on with the same intensity as when it was turned off.

Flash sensor function for still photography

The camera is equipped with a “flash sensor function” that detects flash and automatically turns the light off and on again after one second. Since the light is off when flashing, there is no need to worry about light being captured. The spotlight is used as a focus light for focusing. The wide-angle light can be used as a light to find a subject or check the environment without worrying about uneven exposure or color bleeding.

Compact body for easy handling

A point light source is arranged in the middle of the large donut-shaped light source, eliminating waste in the arrangement of light-emitting surfaces and allowing for a reduced lamp head. With a compact size that fits in the palm of your hand and an underwater weight of only 163g, the body design fits comfortably in your hand, making it easy to use and control.

Easy-to-read color LCD display

Various functions are displayed on a high-visibility color LCD panel. “Light intensity” and “available illumination time”, the most important parameters underwater, are displayed on the same large, easy-to-read display. Light intensity can be adjusted by simply pressing a button while viewing the panel display.

Light intensity: Light intensity during illumination is displayed in 1% increments

Four troubleshooting functions

Safe Mode: Battery indicator flashes. Display shows “10 minutes” and starts counting down.

When the lamp head temperature reaches 55°C (55°F) or higher during use, the lamp will automatically enter protection mode and reduce the light intensity to 20% of the maximum.

Flashing signal mode: “BLI” is displayed. (BLI = flashing).

Repeating light [3 short blinks] ⇒ [3 long blinks] ⇒ [3 short blinks] ⇒ [OFF].

2-way battery charging

Despite the compact body, the Li-ion battery has a large capacity of 3400 mAh and can be recharged in two ways.

Direct charging:
The battery can be charged directly by connecting the dedicated rear charging plug provided to the charging connector on the back of the camera body. There is no need to remove the battery from the camera body, so there is no risk of flooding. There is no need to remove the battery from the camera body.

Detachable charger:
The battery can be removed from the body for recharging. The battery is compact so you don’t have to worry about running out of battery if you have a spare battery to replace it.

Turn on the power by replacing the lamp head

The LX series lamp heads are interchangeable. The LX-2400SW FS lamp head can be used as a 2400 lumen lamp with the LX-2400SW FS lamp head, and the LX-1200SW FS lamp head can be used as a 1200 lumen lamp with the LX-1200SW FS lamp head.
