An anime adaptation of Mahjong Soul will begin airing in April 2022. The anime’s official name is Mahjong Soul: Pong , and the production studio behind it is Scooter Films. Mahjong Soul: Pong will be a series of shorts featuring chibi versions of the characters in Mahjong Soul rather than an adaptation of the game’s story. [Thanks, Dengeki!]
The announcement for this anime was first made in Nijisanji Mahjong Cup, an event in which the members of Nijisanji JP confront each other in Mahjong Soul game. The Pong in the title is a reference to “pong” in real life mahjong. This is when you create a trio of tiles by requesting a tile to the player before placing it down.
While this is Scooter Films’ first animated feature film, the director Kenshiro Morii previously worked on Grand Blues! and Anime-Gataris, two shows that also focus on comedy shorts. The anime cast list was not announced in advance, but it is likely that there will be like-minded people in the game. Some of the actors in the game include Maaya Uchida (Fischl from The Genshin effect) and Sakura Tange (Nero from Fate / Grand Order).
Mahjong Soul is an online mahjong game from the Chinese company Cat Food Studio. It is available to play in web browsers and on mobile devices. You can update your player characters with microtransactions, as well as level up or raise their sentiments. The game also sometimes has cooperation with other intellectual property, such as Kakegurui crossovers in 2021.
