NEW YORK – Starter Joe Musgrove dominate New York Metswho gathered a blow all evening, for San Diego Padres won 6-0 in game 3 of the Wild League National League series on Sunday, getting tickets to the NLDS first Los Angeles Dodgers.
San Diego played game 1 of the series against New York, starting with Max Scherzer to the tune of the four hosts in the 7-1 win but struggled to muster multiple waves of attacks in Game 2 against Jacob deGromwho allowed only two runs in six innings in a 7-3 loss.
After Game 2, where the Mets’ foul came on the Padres’ field, San Diego needed Musgrove through in the most important start of his career. Throughout the evening, Musgrove relied on his fast ball, cutters, curves and sliders to continue to completely dominate the Mets’ lineup. The Mets have struggled to generate any offensive momentum against the Padres, with the first fighter Pete Alonso tally the only times attacked at Musgrove in the evening. For seven rounds, Musgrove was not allowed to run while hitting five players, going one and not allowing running.
With Musgrove pitching exceptionally well in the biggest game of his career, the Mets begin Chris Bassitt There was little room for error, but the Padres attack took advantage of every opportunity they got early in the game.

A strange moment occurred late in the sixth inning when Mets manager Buck Showalter demanded a substance test on Musgrove as photos went viral online of the Padres starter’s ears seemingly shining. Umpires then poked her finger in and around Musgrove’s ear, but didn’t find anything that violated the rule.
The Padres will make their second appearance in the squad series since 2006, with their only other appearance coming in 2020 when they lost to eventual World Series champion the Dodgers. Los Angeles beat the Padres 14-5 in the regular season. The Dodgers ranked as the top fouling team in baseball in 2022, scoring 847 runs, while the San Diego ranked 13th out of all teams, scoring 705 runs. The Dodgers also had the lowest team ERA in baseball while the Padres ranked 11th.
High stakes for Padres, who made blockbuster moves on trade deadline for superstar midfielder Juan Soto and painkillers Josh Hader. San Diego has also faced consequences following an 80-match suspension in August for short-playing superstar Fernando Tatis Jr., who tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Padres has made substantial financial investments in Tatis, Soto, Machado, Yu Darvish, Wil Myers and Blake Snell, expecting to compete for the World Series championship, but the results so far have not been as expected. Since the Padres hired baseball executive president AJ Preller in 2014, San Diego has only made it to the knockout stages in 2020 and this season.
