Erica Mena had a lot to say after her ex-husband Safaree Samuels said he broke up with Nicki Minaj was the “biggest struggle” he had to overcome.

Safaree Samuels opens up about her breakup with Nicki Minaj
Last week, the podcast ‘We In Miami’ took to Instagram to reveal that Safaree was the show’s latest guest. Then, earlier this week, the podcast shared a teaser clip of one of the topics discussed with the rapper.
In the clip, the host asks Safaree what the “biggest struggle or obstacle” he’s “ever had to overcome” is. In response, the rapper explains that after his split from Minaj, “her fans and some people” wanted to “leave him for nothing.”
“I was with Nicki, we broke up, so her fans and certain people, they just wanted it to be like, ‘Oh okay, they’re not together anymore — screw him. Let him be nothing, let him fall apart, let him disappear…’” Safaree recalled. “But nine, ten years later… I’m still here, and you know, some people don’t like that.”
Safaree went on to explain that after he and Minaj split, she started dating rapper Meek Mill, “and they were like the oldest [couple] in the world.” Additionally, he explained that “they are all fighting.”
“You have to think about it — I have two of the greatest people in the world against me,” Safaree said. “So that makes everyone against me. So no one wants to be around me, no one wants to work with me or whatever…”
Ultimately, the rapper explained that it was a “dark period” for him.

Erica Mena Reacts to Nicki Minaj’s Comments on Social Media
Safaree’s comment sparked a flurry of reactions in The Shade Room’s comments section.
Instagram user @realferxxo wrote, “One thing Safaree will do is remind us that he used to date Nicki”
While Instagram user @terrick93_ more, “This man is married to Erica and has two children with her and he mentions the Queen, who he hasn’t seen in over 10 years, what a crazy job”

Instagram user @binksantana wrote, “So it’s not the divorce from your wife that destroyed you, it’s the breakup between you and Nicki.”
Mena herself even shared a few words about her ex-husband.
“… I will be FOREVER ashamed,” she wrote. “I gave my sister these beautiful, amazing children. He doesn’t even talk or care about his seed that much online or [in] real life.”
Currently, Safaree has not responded to his ex-wife’s comments.
This isn’t the first time Erica Mena has publicly criticized Safaree.
According to Pinkvilla, Safaree dated Minaj from 2000 to 2014. As The Shade Room previously reported, the rapper later married Mena in 2019.
However, in 2021, Mena filed for divorce from Safaree while pregnant with their second child, according to The Shade Room.
At that point, the couple’s relationship appeared to have taken a turn for the worse, with Mena accusing Safaree of being irresponsible during her pregnancy. Additionally, after their second child was born, Safaree reportedly celebrated her birthday in Jamaica while the baby was still in the NICU, according to The Shade Room.
The couple’s divorce was finalized in September 2022. However, Mena later criticized Safaree for making her a “single mother twice over,” according to The Shade Room.
In April 2023, things got tense between the former couple when Safaree apparently gifted a Rolex watch to her ‘Love & Hip Hop’ co-star Amara Le Negra’s child, according to The Shade Room. Mena eventually called Safaree a “worthless clown.”
At the time, Safaree’s lavish gifts to La Negra’s children caused confusion about whether they were dating, according to The Shade Room. However, later that year, La Negra seemed to reveal that their proposed romance was just for TV ratings.
