Ryan Garcia missed weight, paid Devin Haney $1.5 million, continued fighting

The play continues.

Ryan Garcia on Friday came in 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit for his pay-per-view bout with titleholder Devin Haney on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The fight will continue but Garcia will be $1.5 million poorer, as his team has indicated that he will honor the bet he made with Haney at his final press conference on Thursday. Five: $500,000 per pound over the limit.

“Ryan has considered the weight of his contract. He will honor the handshake made at the final press conference yesterday. We have a fight,” his promoter Golden Boy said in a statement Friday morning.

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has been tasked with defending his WBC 140-pound title. However, Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) will not be eligible to win after missing weight.

Garcia clearly saw no point in trying to get back on the scale within an hour to try to lose 3.2 pounds.

Garcia acted erratically before the fight, including a series of bizarre and crude comments at the final press conference.

Haney won his title by knocking out Regis Prograis in his most recent bout in December.

The Haney-Garcia Battle is available on DAZN PPV.
