Rocket debris found on Australian farmland is from SpaceX mission, agency confirms | World News

Experts have confirmed the debris found in New South Wales is from a craft built by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.

People have also been warned by Australian officials to “do not attempt” to handle any other debris that could be from the ship amid speculation that many items “could still be found”.

Two farmers have discovered what appears to be a space device scattered across their pasture.

The Australian Space Agency (ASA) has confirmed that the debris in the Snowy Mountains is from a SpaceX ABC reported.

Two pieces have been analyzed while experts are also aware of a third object found in the area.

The ASA said it has “confirmed the debris is from a SpaceX mission and continues to engage with our partners in the US” along with other authorities “as appropriate”.

A spokesperson added: “The agency is operating under the Australian Government’s Space Re-entry Plan, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of key Australian government agencies and committees in support response to space re-entry debris.

“If the community detects any more suspected debris, they should not attempt to dispose of or retrieve it.”

People have been asked to contact SpaceX’s debris hotline or email [email protected].

Dr Brad Tucker, an astrophysicist at the Australian National University, told Sky News before confirmation from the ASA how he believe the debris is from a SpaceX capsule.

“After testing, you can see scorching patterns,” says Dr. Tucker.
