Robert Lewandowski’s best moments: The prolific goalscorer turns 36

With the La Liga season underway, Robert Lewandowski will turn 36 years old on August 21.

The superstar striker is currently in his third season with the Barcelonaand scored twice in the club’s opening game against Valencia last weekend. Lewandowski has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe for over a decade now, dominating the Bundesliga in particular during his time at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

With an incredible career filled with countless achievements, FOX Sports Research decided to analyze the best moments of his career.

Let’s take a look:

Five most memorable moments in Robert Lewandowski’s career

Incredible Campaign 2020-21

  • Lewandowski’s legacy as one of the best players of his generation was cemented during his stellar 2020-21 campaign with Bayern Munich. He broke the Bundesliga record for goals in a season with 41, breaking a nearly 50-year-old mark (Gerd Müller). That season, he scored in 25 of 29 league games, en route to winning both the Ballon d’Or Player of the Year award and the European Golden Shoe—the latter awarded to the top scorer in all of Europe’s top leagues.

Winning the Champions League and the treble

  • There’s no denying that Lewandowski is a surefire winner. He has won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, along with three German Cups and five German Super Cups. His 2019-20 season was his most notable, however, as he achieved a coveted European treble. During that campaign, he led Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League. He led each of those competitions in goals (55 in 47 games), the only player in German history to achieve that feat.

Five goals in nine minutes against Wolfsburg

  • In this incredible “super-sub” performance, Lewandowski brought Bayern Munich back from 1-0 down at half-time in 2015. He scored in the 51st, 52nd, 55th, 57th and 60th minutes, for a total of five goals in nine minutes. He set the records for the most goals scored by a substitute in the Bundesliga (five), the fastest hat-trick in the Bundesliga (three minutes 22 seconds) and the fastest five goals in a Bundesliga match (eight minutes 59 seconds).

Making his mark in first season at Barcelona

  • Lewandowski has dominated the Bundesliga at two different clubs, but a move to Barcelona would be a new challenge for him. In his first season there in the 2022-23 campaign, the then 34-year-old excelled, leading the league in goals with 23 in 34 games. He scored 59 goals in 95 games (all competitions) for the Spanish powerhouse in his first two seasons there.

Become Poland’s all-time top goalscorer

  • The real test for a football superstar is whether they can replicate their club success at national team level, and Lewandowski has done just that. Named captain in 2013, he became Poland’s all-time top scorer on 5 October 2017. He scored a hat-trick against Armenia to take his tally to 50 goals, surpassing Włodek Lubański’s record of 48. Lewandowski’s current tally is 83.
