Reproductive health was a major topic at the DNC. Here’s where abortion law stands today: NPR

Access to reproductive health is at the heart of the conference.

Follow Dobbs The 2022 decision has left states with varying levels of abortion restrictions — confusing doctors and patients. Some states have questions about abortion on the November ballot — including key battlegrounds like Arizona and Nevada.

At the DNC, many women spoke out about the personal impact of state-level abortion bans and the potential threats they believe these bans pose to women across the country.

Tonight, social media influencer Nabela Noor shared her own journey to starting a family. She began pursuing IVF, but noted that she believes the freedom to pursue IVF to start a family is under threat under the Trump administration.

State regulations on abortion has sown confusion between patients and doctors about whether IVF regulations are restrictive. And each state has different regulations about whether abortion is prohibited in cases of incest or rape.

Hadley Duvall, who spoke Monday night, shared that she became pregnant at age 12 after being raped by her stepfather. She expressed her fears for other young women who may be in her situation and unable to access abortion care.

Duvall said she couldn’t imagine not having the choice.

“But today, that’s the reality for many women and girls across the country because of Donald Trump’s abortion ban,” Duvall said. “He calls it a wonderful thing. What’s so wonderful about a child having to carry their parents’ child?”
