Remington Park Scheduled to Open 67-Date Meet Aug. 18

Remington Park celebrates the 35th anniversary of its first race during the 2023 Thoroughbred season, which begins Friday, Aug. 18. The 67-race date season includes opening night, Oklahoma Derby week, Oklahoma Classics, and craft beer and wine festivals.

The first night of Thoroughbred racing in 2023 takes place Friday with a post time of 7 p.m. The feature will be the $100,000 Governor’s Cup, the initial stakes race of the season. On Friday, Sept. 1, Remington Park will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first race run at the track, the Inaugural Handicap won by Bold Les in 1988.

Other major racing events on the calendar include the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby Sept. 24, the Oklahoma Classics card Oct. 20 and the $300,000 Springboard Mile Dec. 15, the final day of the meet.

“Thoroughbred season is a special time of the year at Remington Park, as racing fans enjoy not only our sport’s leading human and equine athletes competing, but also unforgettable experiences all around the track,” said Matt Vance, Remington Park’s executive vice president of racing. “Our races typically draw top trainers, jockeys and horses, both from our region and farther, which leads to quality experiences for our patrons throughout the season.”
