Rain code map will be wider than Tokyo

According to an upcoming interview to be published in Famitsu and was discovered by the Japanese hunter ryokutya2089, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Script writer Kazutaka Kodaka revealed that the game’s map will be larger than Tokyo’s 23 wards combined. In addition, Kodaka also briefly talked about the content of the game, including side quests and other events. Notably, Kodaka also says that there’s a “big surprise” in store, but it’s still in development. [Thanks, ryokutya!]

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu, Kodaka said that the game area is “bigger than Tokyo’s 23 wards”. Called Kanai Ward, players will explore this 3D world while investigating as trainee detective Yuma. Furthermore, he said that there will be a lot of things for players to do, including meeting events with other detectives, side quests, etc.

The absolute scale of the map might explain why Rain code has been in development for more than six years. Regarding this, Kodaka clarified that the developers worked “non-stop” during that time. He also noted that one of the important problems of the investigative genre is the repetition of investigative methods. Therefore, Kodaka says that they design the game so that each case will allow players to have a different way of investigating. First, Kodaka went on to note that the studio is also planning a “big surprise”.

Kodaka previously worked as a writer on Danganronpa series, as well as 2020 The end of the world club. Developing Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is Spike Chunsoft, the developers behind the same Danganronpa series. Before, Rain code called Enigma Archives: Rain Code.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code will release sometime in Spring 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
