The The R35 generation GT-R was once Nissan’s halo car since it launched on the market in 2007, but it’s finally coming out. Somehow, the all-wheel-drive Godzilla is iconic managing to remain a powerhouse of technology and speed after all these years. The car was launched with great fanfare, outperforming much more expensive cars from Porsche and Ferrari, and it continues to be a fan favorite throughout the years despite looking very similar to 17 years ago. Back then it was so far ahead of the game that it took a lot of time for others to catch up. Nissan has been hanging its performance hat on the GT-R for a long time now and It’s time for it to sink into the sunset of history.

Nissan announced this week that the GT-R will receive a final pair of special edition models, called the T-Spec Takumi and Skyline Editions. The T-Spec Takumi Edition pays homage to Nissan’s master takumi artisans who hand-assemble the VR38DETT engines in every GT-R. This model will only be available in Midnight Purple exterior paint with Mori Green interior trim, a beautiful combination. The Takumi Edition will also feature carbon ceramic brakes, special gold versions of the 20-inch Rays wheels, wider front fenders and a Nismo-tuned chassis control module. All those bells and whistles come at a premium, with the Takumi Edition priced at $151,090.

The Skyline trim brings back the iconic Bayside Blue paint from the R34 generation, which is absolutely rad, and the interior is a lovely soft Sora Blue. The Skyline version will cost $131,090. Both models will arrive at Nissan dealerships this summer and fewer than 200 of each will be produced.

In the press release about these special editions and the “sunset” of the R35, Nissan said the following:

While the R35 GT-R left its mark unforgettable legacyNissan is now laser-focused on the future and the next era of exciting performance innovation.

That choice of words is important, because Nissan showed off the 1,300-horsepower, electric Hyper Force concept last fall, detailing what What the next generation GT-R could become.
