As part of BMW Motorrad’s 100th anniversary, the company unveiled a prototype of the latest model in its M lineup: the M 1000 XR. The M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, the first two independent M models from BMW Motorrad, will be introduced in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

The M 1000 XR builds on the current S 1000 XR, S 1000 RR and M 1000 RR as a long-distance sports car with super-sporty driving dynamics for the road as well as the track.

BMW says the letter M “is synonymous with racing success around the world for more than 50 years, as well as with BMW’s high-performance road cars aimed at customers with very high performance expectations. productivity, exclusivity and individuality.”

The M 1000 XR features a claimed engine capacity of over 200 hp and a curb weight of 492 lb, as well as chassis technology, aerodynamics and control electronics that BMW says is designed as together for use on high-performance road, long-distance, and fast-track racing, with a claimed top speed of approximately 174 mph. Further weight reduction and dynamic drivability can be achieved with the available M Competition Package.
The M 1000 XR has the same M winglets as the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, providing greater stability, reduced skidding and increased acceleration thanks to improved aerodynamic downforce and improved positioning. Leaning forward ensures better bike control, especially in super sport mode.
Like their M predecessors, the new M 1000 XR features M brakes. They have been developed based on the experience gained with racing brakes on BMW Motorrad factory racing machines during the Superbike World Championship. .
