Prince Harry said he hopes his children “never have to experience the online world like they do now”.
Duke of Sussex shows how people’s use of social media “is not working and needs to be fixed”, when he expressed concerns about him and his wife Meghan share with their children.
Speaking of his concern for his children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 11 months, he said: “My children are too young to experience the online world. And I hope. that they’ll never have to experience it like they do now. No child has to.
“Sometimes I feel like I can keep them away from the online harm they might face in the future forever, but I’m learning to understand better.”
Harry was speaking at a charity event via Zoom from his home in California, when he helped launch an online safety toolkit run by the 5Rights Foundation.
Speaking at the webinar, he criticized the internet business model as well as social media companies making “unbelievable money” from people’s attention and information.
“Wherever you are, where you’re hearing from, I predict that your family, as well as mine, understands that the way we experience technologies like social media doesn’t work and needs to be fixed.” he said.
“The online world is changing and each of us must make sure that change comes before our children’s right to a safe and happy future.”
The royal family was attended by representatives from the United Nations, the African Union and the EU, as well as young people aged 13 to 21 from around the world including South Africa, Canada and Malaysia.
He praised the youth charity’s “groundbreaking work” in calling for a safer digital world for young people.

The duke, who stepped down as royal in 2020, claims he has “two hopes” to discuss in the virtual chat – to give the parents involved a voice and engage those Young people experience today’s technology, empowering them to ask for better.
He said everyone must work together “to make sure every child can grow up in a digital age that allows them to thrive”.
Harry and Meghan will return to the UK next month for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrationwith both Archie and Lilibet.
This will be the first time Queen will meet her 11-month-old granddaughter Lilibet, who named after her.
