All four major championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics are behind us as golfers turn their focus to their respective final rounds. Sitting atop the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup standings — thanks to wins in three of the year’s six biggest events — Scottie Scheffler has left no doubt that he remains the top golfer in the game.

Winning gold in dramatic fashion at Le Golf National, the American reminded those who may have forgotten why he is indeed the world’s No. 1. The reason for the doubt had nothing to do with his game, but with Xander Schauffele. Winning his second major at The Open, Schauffele completed an all-time major championship season in his own right.

Without Scheffler, Schauffele’s season would have been even more rosy, but with just two wins — albeit big ones — there’s no way the Californian can overtake the Texan. Rory McIlroy continues to drift into the top three while several of his European rivals move up the rankings.

Former world No. 1 Jon Rahm has found his feet despite a late slump at the Olympics. He is joined on the podium by Tommy Fleetwood in silver and Hideki Matsuyama in bronze, both of whom have moved up the rankings this week.

The Power 18 provides insight into how golfers are currently performing with their playing edge compared to recent events. It’s a broader view than what happened at the last tournament played but narrower than the Official World Golf Ranking, which takes into account how more than 2,000 golfers performed across the entire season.
