  • Porsche says third-generation Cayenne (plug-in hybrid) and non-hybrid will go hand-in-hand with EV
  • Porsche recently revised its electric vehicle production timeline, with plans to keep its gasoline-powered models around for longer.

Porsche has confirmed that its current Cayenne models, including the plug-in hybrid, will be sold alongside The fourth generation Cayenne, fully electric throughout this decade and sometime in the next decade.

The current Cayenne models, which have been on sale since 2019 and were updated in 2024, will get further updates to stay fresh, along with a newer electric version expected to go on sale in 2026, possibly as a 2027 model in the United States.

This means the popular mid-size performance SUV will be offered with three powertrain options for years to come.

The announcement came Thursday, just days after Porsche said The EV transition will take longer Porsche also said it would fall short of its previous target of electric vehicles accounting for 80% of sales by 2030, although the automaker remains open to achieving that goal if demand warrants it.

Prototype for the Cayenne electric car has been spotted in the wild for months. The car uses a further development of the 800-volt PPE (Premium Performance Electric) platform that debuted in Macan 2024 and has since appeared in Audi Q6 E-Tron 2025.

In addition to typical Porsche performance characteristics, the automaker will also aim for stable and high-power charging, along with high efficiency for the Cayenne electric model, Porsche R&D chief Michael Steiner said in a statement.

The prototypes are heavily camouflaged, but the design appears to be similar to the electric Macan. Porsche is also selling the current petrol Macan alongside the new electric version, although Porsche has previously announced that production of the petrol Macan will end in 2026.

Production of the electric Cayenne is expected to take place at the Volkswagen Group plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, where the current petrol and hybrid Cayennes are made.
