Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing at Phillip Island
This will be the 32nd Australian Grand Prix, held every year since the first visit in 1989 except for 2020 and 2021 when the Australian GPs were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first two Australian Grands Prix were held at Phillip Island before MotoGP visited the Eastern Creek circuit for six consecutive years, returning to Phillip Island in 1997, which has been its home ever since. This is the 26th Grand Prix taking place at Phillip Island.

Since the introduction of the MotoGP category in 2002, Honda has had nine wins at Phillip Island, including four in 2015, 2017 and 2019 with Marc Marquez, and in 2016 with Cal Crutchlow.
Ducati has won four MotoGP championships at Phillip Island, all with Casey Stoner between 2007 and 2010. Since then, Ducati has won third place with Andrea Iannone (2015), Andrea Dovizioso (2018) and Jack Miller (2019).
Yamaha has won the MotoGP race at Phillip Island 5 times, 3 times with Valentino Rossi (2004, 2005 and 2014), 1 with Jorge Lorenzo (2013) and 1 with Maverick Viñales (2018).
Both factory Yamaha riders also finished on the podium in 2017, with Valentino Rossi in second, followed by Maverick Viñales. Johann Zarco makes the list of three Yamaha riders in the top five for the fourth time.
Suzuki has been crowned Phillip Island three times in the top tier: in 2006 when Chris Vermeulen finished second, in 2016 when Maverick Viñales finished third and in 2018 when Andrea Iannone finished second.
Aprilia’s best at Phillip Island: sixth with Andrea Iannone in 2019. Jeremy McWilliams reached the top pole standard here in 2000, which was Aprilia’s last pole until this year’s Aleix Espargaro in Argentina .
KTM’s best MotoGP result at Phillip Island: ninth with Pol Espargaro in 2017. He qualified for sixth, which was KTM’s best qualifying result in the class at the time.
Hometown drivers have won 10 GPs at Phillip Island: Casey Stoner (MotoGP 2007-2012), Wayne Gardner (500cc in 1989 and 1990), Mick Doohan (500cc/1998) and Jack Miller (Moto3/2014).
The last Australian to finish on the podium at Phillip Island in any category was Jack Miller, who finished third in the 2019 MotoGP.
Four riders all started from the pole and won the MotoGP race at Phillip Island: Valentino Rossi in 2003, Casey Stoner (2008 to 2012), Jorge Lorenzo in 2013 and Marc Marquez (2015 and 2017).
Marc Marquez qualified as pole for five years at Phillip Island from 2014 to 2018, on par with Casey Stoner, who did so from 2008 to 2012 at the track.

At the 2003 Malaysian GP, MotoGP Legend Valentino Rossi won the MotoGP race from Sete Gibernau and MotoGP Legend Max Biaggi to claim their third consecutive world title and fifth overall.
Also at GP, MotoGP Legend Dani Pedrosa defeated Mika Kallio and MotoGP Legend Jorge Lorenzo in the 125cc race to win the first of three GP titles.
October 13
At the 2013 Malaysian GP, Ana Carrasco finished 15th in Moto3 to become the first female rider to score in lightweight since the 1995 Czech GP when Tomoko Igata finished 7th in the 125cc race.
October 14
At the 2001 Australian GP, Valentino Rossi won the 500cc race, 0.013 seconds ahead of Max Biaggi to claim the first of the world’s top seven titles.
At the 1967 Japanese GP at Fisco, MotoGP Legend Mike Hailwood won the 350cc race, which was the last of his 76 wins.
At the 1962 Argentine GP, Arthur Wheeler won a 250cc race against Umberto Masetti and Rudolph Kaiser.
46 years and 70 days, he is the oldest driver to win the GP race (single category).
Also at the GP, Ernst Degner finished second in the 50cc race to claim the title, first for Suzuki in the GP race.
October 15
At the 2006 Portuguese GP held in Estoril, Toni Elias won the MotoGP race, 0.002 seconds ahead of Valentino Rossi, the closest victory interval since the introduction of MotoGP in 2002.
At the Australian GP 2000, Roberto Locatelli won the 125cc race against Emilio Alzamora to claim the title.
At the Argentina GP in 1961, Jorge Kissling won the 500cc race (his first GP race) at the first Grand Prix held outside of Europe since the world championship was founded in 1949. This was also the first GP victory of an Argentinian driver.
At the same GP, Tom Phillis won the 125cc race for the title, becoming only the second Australian to do so after Keith Campbell in the 350cc class in 1957. He also won. in the 250cc race to finish second in the Championship behind Mike Hailwood. .
October 16
At the 2011 Australian GP, MotoGP Legend Casey Stoner won the MotoGP race on his 26th birthday to claim the second of his top two titles. This is Stoner’s fifth consecutive win at Phillip Island
