The top stars from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will come together… at least for one night in mid-December in Las Vegas. The PGA Tour’s Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will take on LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a televised match, according to Eamon Lynch of Golfweek.

“I’m excited to be partnering with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting match with Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December,” McIlroy texted Lynch. “This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best of the best together.”

Las Vegas has played host to numerous golf showcases, from last fall’s Netflix Cup, which saw PGA Tour players and Formula 1 drivers team up, to multiple editions of The Match, including one that saw Koepka defeat DeChambeau as a way to quell his own personal rivalry. The Wynn Golf Club is the venue for both of those matches, although the venue for the unique exhibition has yet to be confirmed.

The matchup of the top stars from both golf tournaments comes at a time when negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s financial sponsors, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, appear to have stalled. PGA Tour commissioner and PGA Tour Enterprises CEO Jay Monahan has said talks are underway; however, details have been scant since a June 6 framework agreement to end litigation between the two tournaments was announced 15 months ago.

“We continue to focus on what we have control over, moving forward with the great system that we have in place,” Monahan said ahead of the Tour Championship. “As far as any details of the conversations that we’re having with the Public Investment Fund, I’m not going to go into specifics. I’m not going to go into specifics.”

Not only do the two tournaments have history, but so do the four players. DeChambeau memorably beat McIlroy at this year’s US Open to win his second major championship. Meanwhile, Scheffler has teamed with both DeChambeau and Koepka in various sessions in the last two Ryder Cups.

Koepka and DeChambeau had a back-and-forth spat that was put to rest when both players moved to LIV Golf. Koepka passed McIlroy for the most major championships among active players under the age of 45 with his fifth win at the 2023 PGA Championship.
