Peugeot Inception declares France’s electric car future

Continuing with Stellantis’ display theme car concept previewing the future of each respective brand, Peugeot brought its Inception concept to CES. And it’s so beautiful. That’s another reason why we’re upset because we don’t get Peugeot in the US

The car is a really low sedan, about the same size as a midsize family car. It’s a simple overall shape with long, sharp lines along the sides and on the windshield. It gives the car a classic rear-wheel drive ratio from the side, but that’s just an illusion, as the windshield basically continues to touch the floor and an aerodynamic bridge spans the front ( a bit like above Charger Daytona) offers a more traditional hood look. The rear part is significantly swept back, which adds to the rearward-leaning look.

The starting concept of Peugeot

There are neat details when you look closer. Inception’s claw-shaped daytime running lights are integrated into a wide pane of glass that hides the front driver assistance sensors. The taillights resonate at the front, and they’re fitted in infinity glass to make them look as if they extend deep into the car’s interior. The giant glass panels have a multi-chrome yellow finish for a distinct look while also reflecting light and heat. And the wheels and some trim are made in part from recycled polyester that is molded in plastic.

The interior is designed in a rough, contoured style, with simple, blocky panels. The seats basically rest on the floor and each section adjusts to fit the ideal rider. The instrument panel is just in front of the driver to keep the cockpit as open as possible. All buttons for stereo controls, climate control, etc. have been merged on a rectangular steering wheel named “Hypersquare”. The idea is that all of those items can be controlled with your thumb, so you don’t have to take your hands off the wheel. The wheel is also wire-driven, again to make the front more open. It is clear that Peugeot wants to implement this system in cars by the end of the decade.

At the wheel – ahem, super square – is a vertical cylindrical display that displays instruments and other information. It can display it on both sides of the screen, which can be useful when the car is running in SAE Level 4 autonomous mode.

Powering the Inception are electric motors at the front and rear, producing 671 horsepower. Peugeot says it can hit 62 mph in under 3 seconds. 100-kWh the battery power supply, and the company claims the WLTP cycle’s range is 497 miles. The 800 volt battery pack allows for very fast DC charging.

Peugeot's Beginning Concept

The Inception itself isn’t necessarily going to go into production, but the styling will appear on the next generation of Peugeot. Electric Car. This new car will start appearing in 2025. But not in the US, and that makes us sad.
