Malaysian Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (Pekema) through its subsidiary Central Auto Distributions Bhd (CADB) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NexV Manufacturing to Dongfeng box assembly. The aim is to make Malaysia a regional hub for compact EV hatchbacks.

According to Pekema – the importers’ umbrella body in tandem with open APs – the partnership will see NexV provide a domestic assembly facility, with CADB handling the marketing and distribution of electric vehicles. Pekema chairman Datuk Hj Mohamed Nazari Noorder said CADB is exploring a CKD program with China’s Dongfeng Motor. He added that this is in line with Pekema’s vision to increase members’ participation in the electric vehicle sector.

“Through CADB, Pekema intends to develop local talent and electric vehicle suppliers. We also hope to have successful technology transfer from Dongfeng Motor, which has invested heavily in automotive technology in China. This not only benefits the local industry but also creates opportunities for our members to participate in distribution and after-sales,” he said.
