A year after the world premiere of the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, this year’s Parmigiani Fleurier follows up with another jumping analog watch, the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante.

New Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante.

The new watch echoes last year’s GMT by implementing the classic chronograph function with a new, simpler operation. Where the previous model allowed hand-based GMT time display, the new watch allows the user to check the elapsed minutes on demand via a second minute hand hidden just below the main minute hand.

Instead of rotating the calibrated bezel (as on a dive watch), the user simply presses a pusher to move the second golden hour hand to the desired time.

With the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, controlling the movement of the seconds hand performs the elapsed time display, not the user’s bezel reading. Elapsed time is indicated when the main minute hand reaches – and covers – the golden minute hand.

This display can be used to calibrate minutes for a specific time period, or for any occasion or event that requires measuring minutes, such as cooking time or gaming time.

To use this function, the wearer can move the rose gold-colored hand in five-minute increments (via the pusher at 8 o’clock) or in one-minute increments (via the pusher at 10 o’clock). When the two needles meet and overlap, the time to be measured will elapse.

At any time, the wearer can return the gold hand to its hidden position beneath the rhodium-plated main minute hand by pressing the crown-integrated pusher, in a manner similar to the split-seconds function.

As on last year’s Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, this new hand-based chronograph function is visible only when activated.

The movement that helps to perform these functions, the new caliber PF 052, is powered by an elegant rose gold micro-rotor and is fully visible from the back of the 40 mm steel case.

Of course, the functionality here is combined with the watchmaker’s premium craftsmanship and finishing. These include a sand gray hand-cut Grain d’Orge guilloché dial, and 18-karat yellow gold hands and hour markers. As on all Tonda PF models, the knurled bezel is platinum.

The new one Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante is an ingenious, welcome addition to Parmigiani Fleurier’s new series of handcrafted complex displays.

Price: $30,600.

Still new in 2023

In addition to the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, Parmigiani Fleurier launches the platinum-cased Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon with a beautiful Milano blue dial ($163,700), the all-platinum Tonda PF Microrotor debuting with date and time only ($92,800) and trio of perpetual watch models showing time according to the Islamic, Chinese and Gregorian calendars.
