Ottawa Senators: NHL suspends team’s season due to Covid-19 outbreak

The National Hockey League has postponed the Senators’ next three games due to “evidence of continued spread” of the novel coronavirus, the federation said Monday.

Ahead of Sunday’s 4-0 loss to the Calgary Flames, the team’s top scorer, Drake Batherson, was withdrawn from the squad and placed on the NHL’s Covid-19 protocol list.

The team entered the game with 10 players unavailable due to protocol.

The coach said the player who received the Minnesota Vikings vaccine was taken to the emergency room with Covid-19 symptoms

The league said team facilities have been closed and will remain so until further notice.

Games against the New Jersey Devils, Nashville Predators and New York Rangers will be rescheduled.

The league did not disclose a time when the Senators could restart their seasons. The team will play next Monday in Colorado.

This was the first stoppage time match played by an NHL team this season.
