Oscar De La Hoya Keeping Hope Alive for Jermall Charlo Vs. Jaime Munguia Showdown: “We Want The Fight”

Jaime Munguia’s career was built slowly and meticulously.

However, despite being criticized at times by fans for his questionable level of opposition, Munguia has risen to world-class status. Currently, the former young middleweight player is ranked number one in both the WBC and WBO tournaments with 160 pounds.

With her litter selected, Munguia decided not to take on Janibek Alimkhanuly for the interim WBO crown. Instead, Munguia brazenly accepted an offer to play current WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

However, although both parties agreed to the financial part of their deal, their controversy was reduced by both Showtime and DAZN, which were unable to agree on terms on which the contest Theirs will be viewed.

In the end, Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotion, was stumped by the whole ordeal. In his opinion, he’s not entirely opposed to Charlo getting the bulk of the financial pie. He’s also willing to allow Munguia to jump ship and fight Charlo on Showtime pay-per-view.

However, De La Hoya wants to make it clear that Munguia is ready, willing and able to face Charlo next. Longtime promoters and Hall of Fame fighters are simply asking Showtime and their representatives to play fair.

“We want to fight,” De La Hoya said in a self-made video. “Charlo is the champ, he gets more cuts, we all know that. That is common sense. You have Showtime’s pay-per-view war, but I need DAZN to join. They built Jaime Munguia, that’s fair. That is business. More platforms, more pay-per-view, what’s wrong with that? ”

For now, it remains unclear whether both sides will close the gap on their disagreements. However, those discussions can become irrelevant.

The WBC has officially ordered an auction between Munguia and its highly ranked competitor, Carlos Adames, tomorrow afternoon. The winner of said match will then become Charlo’s obligatory challenger.

Meanwhile, Charlo will return to the ring this summer against an unspecified opponent. The WBC heavyweight has defended his middleweight title just once a year for the past two years. In 2021, Charlo struggles with fringe candidate Juan Macias Montiel, winning a tougher-than-expected unanimity decision.
