SsangYong Australia is rebranding to KGM SsangYong Australiabring this market on par with other markets globally.
Currently known as KG Mobility in its home country of South Korea, the automaker’s Australian arm will inherit the KGM prefix but retain the SsangYong name and its familiar winged logo.
Australia is one of the last markets to adopt the KGM name, which was created after South Korean industrial company KG Group acquired a 61% stake in the company in 2022.
However, Australia is one of the few markets to use the combined KGM Ssangyong brand – a decision taken to ensure continued brand recognition. In most markets, the manufacturer is now simply known as KG Mobility or KGM.

“We decided to use the new name to make the most of SsangYong Motor’s strengths,” SsangYong and KG Group chairman Kwak Jae-sun said in December 2022.
“Under the name SsangYong, the company has a huge fan base but also a painful image.”
The launch of the new name coincides with the introduction of the new name Torres The SUV will go on sale in October.
SsangYong has been a familiar brand in the Australian automotive industry since the mid-1990s, operating as a factory-owned and supported company since 2019, with its national headquarters and parts distribution centre in Melbourne.
KGM Australia’s SsangYong vehicle range includes Musso ute and Rexton Large seven-seat SUVs, as well as mid-size cars Korando interference.
The petrol-powered Torres will be followed by the electric Torres EVX later this year, which will be the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) in Australia.
