Nissan Z, X-Trail, Pathfinder and Qashqai could get the Aussie Warrior treatment

The brand filed four trademarks with the Australian Government on September 4 for protection. Z Combatant, X-Trail Combatant, Qashqai car Warrior, and Pathfinder Warrior name.

Such models could join the existing Navara and Patrol Warrior models, which are being locally modified for the Australian market by Epping, Victoria-based Premcar.

A Nissan Australia spokesperson said the brand “regularly files trademark applications to protect our intellectual property”.

Trademarks are a common way for automakers to protect potential names even when they have no plans to build them.

Applications submitted one year after Premcar double its production capacity to meet demand for the Nissan Warrior, including building an additional manufacturing facility in Epping and creating 100 new jobs.

It’s unclear whether any new models will continue to be built at Epping, or whether the Warrior badge could become a trim level like the N-Trek.

Upgrades to the current Navara Warrior over the base version include a 40mm raised ride height, all-terrain tyres, improved suspension, underbody protection, a 100kg GVM upgrade and a steel front bumper.

Likewise, the Patrol Warrior gets a 29mm ride height, off-road tyres, unique front and rear bumpers, dual-mode side exhausts, a GVM upgrade to 120kg and interior cosmetic enhancements.

Nissan has shown a number of off-road concepts and light trail vehicles in the past, though none with the scale and power of the Warrior line. One is Safari Rally Z MemorialBuilt to honor the original Datsun 240Z rally car that won the 1971 East African Safari Rally.

The car is equipped with Nismo parts like a new clutch, cold air intake and exhaust system, and also has custom KW Safari suspension that can be raised by 50mm, upgraded brakes and Nismo Safari wheels wrapped in Yokohama mud tires.

Nissan is now selling a slightly improved version N-Trek version of X-Trailoffers wider tyres and revised styling for a more rugged look. There are also off-road variants of the X-Trail and Pathfinder overseas.
