New NissanZ there’s a lot going for it, including an available manual transmission. But do chip shortages limit production, dealers raise prices unreasonably, and high demand for the few available cars, sales were surprisingly low. But Nissan seems to be betting that the supply issue will work itself out and work out other issues in the process, so it announced the upcoming model. High performance Nissan Z Nismo. That’s great news, but when it arrives, it may only be available with an automatic transmission.

Although it lists lower-spec Zs with a choice of automatic or manual transmission, there is no manual option listed for the Nismo. Automatic transmission only. The supposedly leaked order guide has not been confirmed as legit, so it could very well have been repaired or possibly an early draft. Unfortunately, it could have been a deliberate leak from Nissan to get us even more excited when they announced that the new Z Nismo will offer a three-pedal option.
But we’re leaning towards believing it’s true and that the Z Nismo will just be automatic. That’s just the way things are going these days. Even BMW’s M division will all in on automatic torque converter. to to be fair, modern high-performance automatic transmissions, they’re so much better than they used to be, they’re probably a better choice for a car that’s less likely to cover significant distances, though whatever, compared to a dual clutch transmission. Still, we can’t help but love an outdated guidebook. They may not post the kind of performance metrics a good car or DCT can do, but they’re just more engaging to drive. And isn’t that what you want in a sports car?
