Nissan Navara 2024: Upcoming changes for the outgoing model

Third generation ‘D23’ Nissan Navara it’s been a decade now but there’s still some life left in it. In fact, there will be updates coming soon.

said Nissan Oceania CEO Adam Paterson Car expert that while he couldn’t confirm when we might see the new generation of the brand’s double cab, improvements to the current model are coming.

“You will see some announcements from us on some product activity for the existing D23 over the coming months, to ensure that it remains fresh and competitive in the market,” Mr Paterson said.

When asked about the scale of the upcoming changes, Mr Paterson added: “I don’t know what you consider an update, but yes, there will be some tweaks coming.”

It’s unclear exactly what these changes are as there has been no official announcement for the Thai version yet.

With a growing number of competitors featuring a full suite of safety systems from the base level, part of these improvements could include bringing Navara’s full suite of driver aids across the range. Because.

Currently, entry-level SL trims are equipped with automatic emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, and driver attention monitoring, although features such as blind-spot monitoring, Rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and lane keep assist are reserved for ST and up.

The Navara ST carries a premium of around $5000 over the equivalent SL when comparing dual-cab models. The extra money gets you other goodies like alloy wheels, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, satellite navigation and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

However, compared to the growing number of rivals, the Navara still doesn’t offer features like adaptive cruise control or active lane centering functions.

Even though it’s been a decade, it’s still unclear when the fourth-generation Navara will launch, let alone arrive in Australia.

Nissan representatives are tight-lipped about the next version of this popular model, and the brand clearly doesn’t have the same product cycle timeline as Alliance partner Mitsubishi, which just released a new version. of this car model. Triton ute.

Three years agoNissan’s recently appointed CEO, Makoto Uchida, said that while there will be collaboration between the brands as well as some common components, there will be clear differences between the two vehicles.

“The ‘Nissan-ness’ brand will be determined by the upper body. But if you look back, in the relationship with Renault, because we had a challenging volume mandate, each partner tried to reduce cannibalism as much as possible,” he said.

“As a result, we looked for significant differences between the two and the result was poorer investment performance. But that doesn’t mean we are 1709746204 would use the same upper body… that was not our intention.

“…A difference will be achieved [but] we can use existing assets, for example we look for the application of conventional doors. There are other successful models where they use common doors but they look different.”

Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta also confirmed the partnership with Mitsubishi.

“We are working very closely with Mitsubishi to use common powertrains and transmissions, as well as common modules on the next Triton and Navara,” he said.

It’s worth noting that the Navara didn’t receive a proper mid-life facelift until 2020, with the model hitting the Australian market in 2021.

With a six-year gap between the launch of the current generation and the facelift, it could be another year or two before the next generation arrives.

While it’s unclear when we’ll see the new Navara and what it will look like, the new Triton’s enhanced technology and safety suite are solid clues about what to expect, as is the increased engine. Mitsubishi’s new 2.4 liter 150kW/470Nm dual pressure. diesel engine, which serves as a logical progression from the Navara’s existing 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel.

Electrification plans remain unclear, although Mitsubishi has confirmed it will launch an all-electric pickup truck in the coming years.

Despite its advanced age, Navara will still sell well in Australia in 2024.

February saw Nissan utes achieve their best monthly figures since November 2021, with 1361 4x4s and 140 4x2s registered in the shortest month of the year – a 181% improvement on with February 2023.

Still, that still pales in comparison Ford Ranger (5353 units) and Toyota Hilux (4403 pieces).
