Nikon announces the new NIKKON Z 35mm f/1.4 lens

Today, Nikon added a new lens to its Z lens line for mirrorless cameras. This time it’s the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 lens.

The 35mm focal length has been the hallmark of street and documentary photographers since its inception. Wide enough to capture a variety of scenes but long enough to avoid significant distortion, the focal length can be applied to a variety of photography applications. So much so that, for many photographers, this is the only lens they have in their kit.

Today, Nikon announced the latest version of its classic 35mm lens, the NIKKOR Z 35m f/1.4. Weighing just 415 grams and measuring just 3.4 inches in length, this lens is designed to be an inexpensive everyday lens for the photographer. With a wide f/1.4 aperture, the lens will allow to capture a lot of light in complex lighting situations. The lens uses a stepping motor (STM) for fast and quiet autofocus in both still and moving images. It has a clickless control ring to adjust settings on the fly. Minimum focusing distance is 10.6 inches. The lens is drip-resistant. And Nikon promises that the new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 lens will continue the company’s recent focus on producing lenses with minimal focus breathing.

The lens is expected to begin shipping in mid-July with a suggested retail price of $599.95.

So what do you think? Is the new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 the next lens you’ll add to your kit?
