The new poll results certainly come as no surprise to anyone, showing that Minnesota governor Tim Walz‘s approval rating soars while Ohio senator JD Vancehas decreased sharply.
A YouGov poll from August 8, two days after Walz was announced as Kamala HarrisHis running mate, the governor, has a net approval rating of +11, up 10 points from a YouGov poll last month. Meanwhile, Vance’s net approval rating from an August poll by Marist was -9; a week earlier, a YouGov poll put him at -6.
It’s not hard to see why people have a positive view of Walz and are increasingly alienated from Vance. The former embodies serious Big Dad energy, believing in things like abortion rights, workers’ rights, paid family leave, and affordable housing; as governor, he made sure kids in schools didn’t go hungry. Then there’s Vance, who has suggested that people should stay in abusive marriages for the sake of their children, and that not having children means a person has no “direct stake” in the country and is more likely to be a psychopath.
Speaking at a rally in Philadelphia earlier this week, Walz told the crowd that Vance shared Donald Trump“this country’s dangerous and backward agenda,” adding, “JD Vance really, literally wrote the foreword to the architect of the Project 2025 agenda. Like all the normal people I grew up with in the Heartland, JD went to Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and then wrote a best-selling book criticizing that community. Come on. That’s not Middle America. And I have to tell you, I can’t wait to debate that guy. That is, if he’s willing to get off his chair and show up.”
