More than a year after the women’s deaths, each family received a letter from the coroner, Katrina Hepburn, stating that there would be no investigation in these cases. The letters acknowledged there had been a similar case but said there was no link between the two deaths. They also placed the belief of the pathologist, who investigated both deaths, that the women had been infected with herpes “before admission”.
