The X Network has made its local debut after being previewed at the Malaysia Motor Show in May this year. Offered in three variants, the brand’s second electric vehicle (EV) to be sold here (the first was the V) cost is RM119,888 for base 400 Comfort, up RM127,888 for 400 Luxury and peaked at RM135,888 for the highest version 500 Luxury.

These figures are real-world figures without insurance and the electric SUV comes standard with a five-year/150,000km general parts warranty along with an eight-year/180,000km warranty on the electric drive components (vehicle controller, motor controller, motor drive, battery pack, processor, high-voltage relay, battery management system).

As part of a special introductory promotion from today until July 2024, Neta Malaysia is offering an additional double booking fee subsidy of RM1,000 as well as a choice of a free wallbox or charging credit. Free maintenance for the first two years or up to 40,000km will also be provided as part of this offer.

In terms of dimensions, the X is 4,619 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,628 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,770 mm. For comparison, the Neta EV occupies more space than the BYD Atto 3, smart #1, MG4 EV, Chery Omoda E5 and even the BMW iX1. Ground clearance is 156 mm and the trunk capacity is 508 liters – without the front trunk.

All variants of the X feature a front-mounted electric motor that produces 163 PS (161 hp or 120 kW) and 210 Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just under 9.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h.

The car is powered by a 51.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for the two ‘400’ variants, which is good for a range of up to 401 km (250 miles) according to the NEDC (down 20% for an approximate WLTP figure). Meanwhile, the 500 Luxury gets a 62 kWh battery for a range of up to 480 km (also NEDC).

On the charging front, the X accepts up to 6.6kW of AC input, which can fully charge the battery in nine hours (51.8kWh battery) or 11 hours (62kWh battery). There’s also DC fast charging at a peak of 65kW to charge from 30-80% in 30 minutes, while a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system provides up to 3.3kW to power accessories.

Standard equipment on the 400 Comfort includes 18-inch alloy wheels (with 225/60 profile tires), three selectable driving modes (Eco, Sport, Comfort), one-pedal driving mode, panoramic sunroof, roof rails, auto-folding heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights and rear fog lights.

Inside, you get an electronic column shifter, USB ports for the front and second rows (including Type C ports), synthetic leather upholstery, power front seats, a 60:40 split-folding rear bench, automatic climate control (with rear vents), a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, eight speakers, an around-view monitor, built-in Spotify, app-based infotainment, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and Apple CarPlay support (coming in Q4 2024).

The base model’s safety kit includes six airbags (front, side, curtain), ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, hill descent control, tire pressure monitor and passive cruise control.

Stepping up to the ‘Luxury’ variants will of course net you a more comprehensive kit list, with both the 400 Luxury and 500 Luxury sharing the same improvements. These include the addition of a powered tailgate, a wireless charging pad, memory and welcome functions for the powered driver’s seat, and most importantly, a number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) not available on the base variant.

ADAS functions include full-speed adaptive cruise control with Smart Cruise Assist and Traffic Jam Assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with Lane Change Assist, open door alert, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, high-beam assist and emergency lane keeping assist.

The X comes in five exterior colours, including Pearl White, Sky Grey, Jet Black, Glacier Blue and Amber Brown, while the interior colours are brown and black.
