Nelly’s legal team reacts to arrest
According to TMZ, Nelly’s legal team is filing a police complaint after he showed up at a casino in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday morning.
PageSix reports that Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, claimed the rapper won the jackpot at the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles. The arresting officer later explained that they needed to conduct a background check before releasing the winnings.
According to TMZ, Rosenblum also stated that he believed a background check was unnecessary because Nelly had won a larger jackpot at the same casino before and had claimed his winnings without any issues or background checks.
Rosenblum also revealed to TMZ that the artist has never faced arrest for drug possession, despite reports.
The lawyer expressed confidence that the case would not progress and stated that the law firm would request an investigation into the arresting officer’s conduct.
Rosenblum said a background check revealed an active warrant for Nelly for being uninsured from a previous traffic stop in Maryland Heights. He noted that the active warrant stemmed from a traffic stop in 2018, the ad was issued in December. He also noted that Nelly had never received any notice regarding the warrant.
The lawyer further explained that the ‘Hot In Herre’ artist could have been arrested without just cause, while police claimed to have found ecstasy among the artist’s belongings.

TMZ reports that Nelly, formerly known as Cornell Haynes II, was taken into custody at 4:45 a.m.
The newspaper obtained a photo of him, showing him with bloodshot eyes and an expressionless face, wearing a black hoodie over a white shirt.
Social media users were quick to react to news of his arrest, pointing out that the timing was bad because he and his wife, Ashanti languageare expecting a child together.
