Nauticam Launches Case for Canon EOS R7

Nauticam announced House give Canon EOS R7higher specification — and more expensive — of the two recently released RF mount camera bodies with cropped sensors (the other being EOS R10). The R7 features a 32.5MP APS-C sensor, continuous shooting at up to 15fps with the mechanical shutter (and up to 30fps with the electronic shutter), and 10-bit video recording UHD 4K/60p with full sensor width.

Like the Nauticam case for other models in Canon’s EOS mirrorless line, the NA-R7 can accommodate both RF and EF lenses via an adapter. Controls are streamlined around the integrated grips, including a dual right thumbstick for M-Fn and Record as well as a single right lever for AF-ON.

The enclosure provides built-in fiber baffles and can trigger the fiber optic strobes via an optional TTL or manual trigger. Videographers can attach an external monitor via HDMI 1.4 or an external monitor/recorder like the Atomos Ninja V or Ninja V+ via HDMI 2.0. Nauticam’s vacuum and leak detection systems are standard.

Priced at $3,377, the Nauticam housing for the Canon EOS R7 can now be ordered from retailers like Backscatter.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Introducing the NA-R7

CANON EOS R7 . CAMERA

The Canon EOS R7 is Canon’s latest line of APS-C mirrorless cameras that has hit unprecedented demand. It features the same large 54mm-diameter RF lens mount but the ability to have larger rear lens elements closer to the sensor enhances sharpness at the edges and corners.

The R7 uses a 32.5MP CMOS sensor with in-body image stabilization that can reduce shake by up to 7 stops. The camera’s Dual Pixel II autofocus system is carried over from the professional EOS R3 and features 651 automatic AF points that cover the entire sensor area. It’s also capable of recording massively sampled 4K 30p video using the sensor’s full 7K area, or subsampled UHD 4K up to 60p from the full sensor width.

The EOS R7 can also use the large EF-mount lens lineup via a simple EF to EOS R adapter. The Nauticam NA-R7 case only supports the standard EF to EOS R adapter and provides access to the control loop or drop filter adapter.

Underwater Housing NAUTICAM NA-R7 FOR CANON EOS R7

The NA-R7 underwater case is in line with Nauticam’s innovation efforts. Like the full-frame Canon EOS R5, R5 C and R3, the NA-R7 introduces cameras with the ability to also use legacy EF lenses available through their native RF optical external converters. . To support both legacy and original lenses, Nauticam designed the N100 to N120 adapter to integrate into the Canon EF N120 port system. Canon’s EF to RF mount adapter can be attached to the camera prior to mounting in the case. When using the EOS R7 inside the case with the adapter and supported EF lenses, the port arrangement and extension ring will be the same as the same setup on the Nauticam Canon N120 DSLR. As the RF-S line of lenses arrives, the dedicated port and extension ring combinations will be listed on the new RF-S N100 Port Chart.

Mission Control

Nauticam engineers are obsessed with helping underwater imagers have unfettered access to all the necessary controls, with multiple ergonomically-rubbed handles that are easy to reach. This Mission Control philosophy extends to the NA-R7, where a dual thumbstick is located on the front right to access the M-Fn and Record buttons. On the back right is a thumbstick for AF-ON access. Near the left handle is a thumbstick for “Playback”.

Large, rubberized control dials access the camera’s “main” and “sub” command dials. The two-stage trigger allows for smooth focusing and firing. Additional buttons for “Menu”, “Focus Point Selection” and others can also be easily reached from the handle.

Enable Flash

Flash triggering is done via either optional Flash Triggers, manual LED triggers (PN 26305) or TTL Flash Triggers (PN 26321) using a built-in fiber baffle. with optional fiber optic cable for strobe triggering is supported. For strobe control that does not support fiber flash triggering, a variety of legacy hotbed flash control baffles are available.

Built-in leak detection and vacuum test system

The Nauticam leak detection and vacuum test electronics are shipped with the NA-R7 as standard equipment. Combined with an accessory vacuum valve (25624), this monitoring system provides constant updates on the housing’s watertightness and safety for diving. The simple color-coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the housing is losing its vacuum. Leak detection is integrated in the same circuit, so if there is water ingress, an audible and visual indication will appear.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by changes in outside temperature or because the camera heats up during an action-packed dive.
