My Conquestadory’s Daughter Makes an Impression in Australia
Peter Snowden admits that the big-money purchase of Sakima, a half-sister to Russian Conquest, is still a work in progress but her maiden win at Kensington on July 17 proved to his co-trainer that the two-year-old is on the right track.
The $1.25 million Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate, bought last year by trainer and agent Will Johnson and Trilogy Racing, won her first 1,100-metre (about 5 1/2 furlong) race under Jason Collett. The mare raced once in March before being selected.
After settling near the back of the seven-runner group on Wednesday, Sakima raced out to the middle of the track before making an impressive run to win the race. So you think Newcomer Queen’s Rhapsody was a full length ahead, while Written Tycoon mare Alinea was 2.9 lengths behind in third.
“It was great to see her do it. She’s always shown a little promise, and she’s a well-connected mare, and it was a good first win,” said Snowden, who trains the winning horse with his son Paul.
“She’s not a finished product. She comes from a good family, so hopefully she can go on and win a good race.”
Sakima, who wears the Trilogy Racing silks, is also a half-sister to the United States stakes winner Bourbon War is the third winner of the high-class mare Artie Schiller My Conquestadory .
My Conquestadory, the winner of Keeneland’s Alcibiades Stakes (G1) in 2013, was a $1.5 million purchase by SF Bloodstock and Newgate Farm at the 2016 Keeneland November Stud Auction.
After giving birth to a Russian Revolution mare last spring, My Conquestadory is back in the Snitzel fold.
Lime Country Thoroughbreds and Ravenswood Bloodstock have teamed up to purchase Russian Conquest for $580,000 from the Newgate consignment at the 2024 National Stud Mare Auction.
