MrBeast content creator sponsors surgery for 1,000 blind people

YouTube’s top creator MrBeast is contributing a lot to the world. According to CNN, the content creator has paid to remove cataracts for 1,000 blind people. Or near-blind people who are not able to operate on their own.

The content creator uploaded a video of the process last weekend

On Saturday, the creator took to YouTube to share a video of the process with his subscribers. The video has now surpassed 59 million views.

We are curing the blindness of thousands of people…

The video features emotional footage of the patient’s before and after vision. In addition, the YouTuber also donated cash and other gifts to some of the participants.

MrBeast Cooperates with “Gift Of Sight” Program

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, collaborates with Jeff Levenson, an ophthalmologist and surgeon. Levenson performed the first round of surgery in Jacksonville, Florida. And program leader “Gift of Sight” “provides free cataract surgery to uninsured patients blinded by cataracts.”

Levenson further explained the condition in a YouTube video.

Half of the world’s blind are those who need surgery in 10 minutes.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Levenson explained the effect of cataract removal surgery on his quality of life.

In the days and weeks after my own cataract surgery, I was stunned by the brightness, beauty, and vibrancy of the world. But I was shocked to learn that there are hundreds of millions, maybe 200 million people around the world, who are blind or near-blind due to cataracts and do not have access to surgery.

MrBeast started the initiative in September

One of Donaldson’s team members contacted Levenson to perform the surgery in September. After that, his team began “calling homeless shelters and rooms” free clinic to compile a list of patients in the Jacksonville area who need cataract surgery but cannot afford it.”

Donaldson and Levenson eventually created a list of 40 patients. And all surgeries are done in one day, from 7am to 6pm. According to Levenson, patients “don’t believe that someone will actually come to them to save them from blindness, and then have the kindness and chivalry to recommend surgery. .”

Levenson then connected Donaldson with SEE International, a nonprofit that provides free eye care to patients in need globally. The nonprofit helped Donaldson reach 1,000 patients around the world. And within three weeks, operations were completed in “Jamaica, Honduras, Namibia, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam and Kenya.”

Levenson hopes that Donaldson’s initiative can spark a larger movement around the world.

If MrBeast can light the fire, and if we can get government and private support behind it, we can end half of the world’s blind people. Without that much cost, and with amazing results in terms of productivity and human potential.
